Not to mention: there are even boy's bathrooms where there are no doors, and showers without curtains. This is unimaginable in a girls shower room/bathroom.

When reviewing my case today, the additional factors of race and class were brought into the conversation in different ways. I wanted to share an interesting article that complicates some of these things that happened at my old high school in Portla…

I agree with many of the comments on here about the school closing process. Does this concern anyone besides me: "The odds are strongly against opponents of the closings. Eight of the panel’s 13 members are appointed by the mayor, who can remove hi…

1- Is funding reduced for schools that are deemed "phasing out?" If so, by how much and who determines this amount? 2 - How is it rationalized to students that even though the school is phasing out for poor performance they should still have the mot…

What effect does a school closing have on students' willingness to stay in school? Where do the students and teachers go? Who will attend the "smaller schools" within the building? Would current student have to apply?

1) What is the step-by-step plan for "effectively" phasing out a school? Who is responsible for the transition of students to a new school? 2) What is the criteria for deciding if a) a school is broken into smaller institutions b) students are filt…

I am understand that a percentage of teachers are retained when a school closes. What is the percentage and how do they determine who stays? How can it be more cost effective to run two or three schools in a building with the same number of student…

Policy and Guidelines

Welcome to the Teachers Network Leadership Institute (TNLI) New York City Online Social Network. This online network will be our primary tool for sharing with each other and communicating between meetings. Your participation in this online network is vital to building our community and successfully completing the work we plan.

The purpose of this online network is to share ideas, information, and opportunities relevant to our work as teacher-leaders generally, and TNLI MetLife Fellows specifically. We value your voice, and here are some guidelines to facilitate posting:

* Please spell out acronyms, explain local or school policies, and avoid jargon. Policies and practices that you are familiar with may be unfamiliar to others. We all need to have a common language for discussions.

* Please be mindful of your language when posting or responding to posts. It’s difficult to interpret tone from an online communication. We should assume good intentions, but clarity when posting will go a long way.

* Have fun and learn from each other. This network is an opportunity for us to share ideas, hear multiple perspectives, and argue respectfully. We won’t always agree, but it’s important for us to continue to engage in discussion.

This online social network and all messages and material posted on and transmitted over it are monitored by TNLI. By using the network you have consented to this monitoring. Content that TNLI, in its sole discretion, determines to be inappropriate or a violation of this policy will be removed. Members who abuse this network in a way believed by TNLI to be harmful to others will be removed from this list.
